A Perfect Park Day

After insanely cold temperatures the last few days, today's low 70's was most welcome again! Christopher and I decided we should take the kids out to explore our new park (as described at the end of this post). We don't have to cross any major roads to get to the park and our favorite part (trails, playground, splash park, family area that is located at the back entrance of the park) is located blocks from our house.

Gavin here exploring a part of the trail (walking, biking, hiking, running) that hasn't had the concrete poured yet nor landscaping.

Caden following the "dinosaur" tracks along the path.

All little boys love dirt! Gavin and Caden would find the biggest dirt clumps and see who could throw them the farthest or break into the most pieces.

Reese got in on a little dirt action too.

Caden was in seventh-heaven with this just-his-size dirt pile.

The kids would pretend that all the re-bar, boards and stakes found on the trail were actually booby-traps.

Gavin and Reese on the paved portion of the trail after throwing rocks into the creek from the one of several little bridges along the path.

Can't have a picture of Caden with him making his signature smile for us!

Soon we realized that it was much too warm for coats and guess who got to be the coat rack?

And Reese got sassy! Where in the world did she come up with this pose?!!?

We finally met up with the playground area and were pleasantly surprised that this portion of the park was completed (minus the swings)! Caden likes to "superman" down a slide.

Gavin and Reese on a teeter toter that you stand on. In the background a picnic pavilion is being finished and the swing set without swings.

Quite the intimidating (for Gavin) rock wall.

Caden however, was not intimidated. He's our high adventure boy.

Christopher got this great shot of Gavin on one of the playhouses.

Gavin made going across the monkey bars look like child's play (HA!).

Christopher helping Reese across the monkey bars. She's just like her mama, no upper arm strength!

Then Gavin, being the sweet big brother grabbed Reese's legs and helped her across the monkey bars.

Caden thought he was too cool for help. He lasted one bar and then called in for reinforcements.

Much more enjoyable with mom holding your legs.

Cool shot of Gavin in one of the playhouses.

Caden so cute and having the time of his life. I don't think he slowed down for a second he whole hour we played on the toys. We couldn't get him to leave voluntarily. We just promised more rock throwing into the creek on our walk home.

The kids liked sitting in these seats that use your body to spin yourself sick!

Reese over on the play area for 2-5 years old with Caden and Gavin at the area for 5-12 years old.

Caden loved that seat (the faster the better) despite coming off it and falling to the ground dizzy.

Christopher wanted to try and get a picture of himself reflected in my sunglasses. Didn't work so well. He also took some better pictures of the actual playhouses and area, but b.c he chose to take shots that had my rear end as a center piece, they will not be posted. You'll just have to venture out this way and take a look for yourself (the park, not my rear end!!). We're going back to explore more of the trails on Monday.

I will leave you with Reese's rear end...

The Forney FIVE on Wheels

With the weather so warm and cozy we decided it was high time to get our wheels on! Actually, Caden decided for us when he walked into the garage and pulled out his 3 wheeler and demanded to ride around the block.

So, Caden made a few silly faces and off we went. Daddy got home shortly thereafter and we then went for a family ride.

Gavin rode his own bike..."Rocket". He's quite fast.

I threw Reese and Caden in the back of the "Forney FIVE chariot". Although it looked like things are getting tight in there. Maybe it is time for Reese to get her own two wheeler. We'll see.

We hitched the chariot up to 'ol "Della Cruz" (my cruiser of 5 years). Not ideal, but our Trek that we normally hitch her to is with a friend whose triathlon training along with Christopher. I hope we her the Trek back before Spring and Summer, as Della doesn't have gears! Christopher rode his triathlon bike which obviously wasn't built to pull the chariot.

Don't particularly like this picture of myself, however, I do like the image of the kids playing mirrored in my sunglasses. Good shot, Christopher.

Gavin on his Rocket ride. He was too fast, so fast my camera couldn't not keep up with his pace.

We rode until the sun went down. Caden calls the moon, "moon ball". As we were riding Caden starts screaming, "mommy, mommy, looky....moooooooon baaaaalll". The he proceeds to let everyone he comes into contact with along the way about the moon ball being outside. Reese about threw him out of the chariot!

Today we went for another cruise around the neighborhoods stopping early only b.c Della got a flat. Reese was happy that I allowed Caden to ride his 3 wheeler. She had the chariot to herself and all was grand. I looooove riding around the neighborhood with my family. The city is in the process of completing a 127 acre park (check out the video) just blocks from our house with lots of trails (for biking and running), sports complexes (soccer, baseball, etc), splash park, family park, etc. the should be finished this Spring. We are SUPER excited to have something so close to us! YAY! More Forney FIVE on wheels fun to come!!

Adios Buttercup

Buttercup, you came to our family with much anticipation and misunderstanding that had to be explained. Gavin and his siblings loved you all the first, second and third days. Followed by a slow disinterest and disdain once your first (of many) 3 story mansion pad had to be cleaned and poop tossed.

We thought it was cute that you liked to chirp and talk every time we walked into the room, until you started to annoy us begging for carrots when ever anyone walked into the room.

Although Gavin's mother never wished you upon us, she is glad she endured to the end of what was supposed to be a 2 week adventure (but turned into a 3 week). Why? Because she accomplished what she knew would happen. Gavin has learned that taking care of a pet (even one as caged and boring as you) is hard work. I mean seriously, who wants to clean up poop and clean cages when there is Pokemon to be had!?!? Mom stops at Caden's poop!

So victory was had...Gavin nor his siblings care for a pet. Yet.

Your final cleaning just before we dropped you off back to your rightful (frightful?) owners, the Kindergarten class of Gavin.

See? Even Gavin was glad to be rid of her. Poor thing. Come to find out after we dropped her off with Gavin's teacher, Buttercup can no longer stay in his classroom. A student has claimed allergies. Where will see go now? Anyone interested?

A Friend Remembered

I recently learned that my OB who delivered Gavin and Reese while in Utah has passed away. He truly was a remarkable man and will be missed. My favorite OB hands down! It was clear that Dr. Gordon cherished motherhood and he always made me feel like I was part of an amazing work being a mother. I have copied the Utah newspaper obituary and posted it on our blog so I'll have it printed in our family blurb books (which I'm about to do again...can you believe it's time!?!?). I've been kinda bummed all weekend thinking about how awesome and young he was and how he'll be deeply missed. After all, he was a BYU favorite. But, at the same time, thinking of him makes me happy. He always did have a knack for making me laugh. He died of Lou Gehrig's Disease.

New Year's Day Fun

We started off the New Year sleeping in (7 am for the kids, 8 am for us) and Christopher making breakfast for the family. Yum! Nothing like a hot breakfast! Then we decided to get a few things at Target and head to White Rock Lake Park in Dallas for some play time. I was going to run around the lake while the kids played. Perfect day for it, 60's with a cool wind.

Christopher got some cool shots of the kids while I was out running. Caden.
